Erin is a nearly lifelong resident of Olathe. She and her family moved to Olathe in the late 1970s from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her parents and brother's family also live in Olathe.

Erin received her bachelor's degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University. After being a stay-at-home mom for several years, Erin returned to school, this time attending the University of Kansas School of Law. During her time in law school, Erin interned for Congressman Kevin Yoder and worked for a lobby firm in Topeka. She graduated from law school in December 2012 and practiced family law until recently. Currently, Erin serves as General Counsel for the New Birth Company, which is headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas.

In January 2014, Erin began serving in the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 15th District, which encompasses central and northwest Olathe. Erin also serves on the Olathe Planning Commission and is on the board of governors of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series.

Erin has 13-year-old boy/girl twins who attend Prairie Trail Middle School and she and her family are members of Christ Community Evangelical Free Church, Olathe campus.
